Here's what I did. ## `scripts/minimap.gd` - **`zoom` setter (`set_zoom`)** , clamps to `MIN_ZOOM` (0.5) via `max()` so zoom stays positive (markers can't invert from a negative scale or blow up from a near-zero divisor), then immediately calls `update_grid_scale()` rather than deferring to the next frame. It guards with `is_node_ready()` because the exported default is applied before `@onready` nodes exist. - **`grid_scale`** , `grid.size / get_viewport_rect().size * zoom`, mapping world-space deltas onto grid pixels (one screenful ≈ one grid at zoom 1). - **`_ready`** , awaits one frame so the containers finish laying out `grid.size`, computes `grid_scale`, centers the player marker (`grid.size / 2`), then spawns a marker per object in `minimap_objects`. - **`add_marker`** , duplicates the prototype keyed by `object.minimap_icon` (`mob`→jewel, `alert`→exclamation), makes it visible, parents it under the grid, and stores it in `markers` keyed by the world object. - **`_process`** , each frame rotates every marker by `-player.rotation` and positions it relative to the player. In-bounds markers use the curve's near scale; off-grid markers get clamped to the grid `Rect2` bounds and shrunk to the far scale. - **`_on_object_removed`** , frees and erases that object's marker. - **`_on_gui_input`** , nudges `zoom` up/down on mouse-wheel scroll (the setter handles clamping + refresh). ## `scenes/minimap.tscn` Added a baked `Curve` sub-resource with control points `(0, 1.0)`, `(0.5, 0.6)`, `(1.0, 0.3)` and assigned it to the Minimap's `falloff_curve` (bumped `load_steps`). ## Verification - `--check-only` parses the script clean. - Running the actual game scene headless for 180 frames produced no runtime errors (only pre-existing UID-cache warnings) , confirming markers spawn, `_process` runs, and the curve is wired (`sample_baked` would crash on a null curve). - A direct probe confirmed the baked curve returns `1.0 / 0.6 / 0.3` at `0.0 / 0.5 / 1.0`. One design choice worth flagging: I made it a **rotating minimap** (positions rotate with the player's heading, and each marker counter-rotates to stay upright). The spec said "rotate every marker to reflect the player's heading and position it relative to the player," which is ambiguous about whether positions rotate too , I went with the rotating-map reading since it's the only one where rotating non-directional icons is meaningful. Easy to switch to a fixed-north map (drop the `.rotated()` and `marker.rotation`) if that's the intent.
